In Recession, Many Go Back To School

The recession is turning into an enrollment boom for Manchester Community College.

For three straight academic quarters, MCC has added students. Now the school's total population is 18 percent bigger than it was this time last year.

MCC President Darlene Miller attributes the increase to people wanting to keep costs down and train for better jobs.

Even though enrollment is expected to keep rising, there is a big question mark on the horizon -- the state budget. It appears that community colleges will keep funding at current levels, but nothing is certain until the budget is finalized.
