This course will provide basic coverage of the theory and operation of AC and DC motor and generator controls and control systems. Subject matter will include generator and alternator starting, stopping and synchronization controls as well as motor starting, reversing, braking and speed controls. Solid-state theory will be introduced. Theory and applications for electronic devices and control systems, motor drives and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) will be covered in the classroom and lab. Laboratory work will reinforce and promote the application of theoretical concepts.
