New MCC Student Center (2012-2013)

If you think of MCC as a village, the Student Center is the center on Main Street, a gathering spot for everyone in the community to grab some food, play some pool, to take a fitness class, spend their free time with friends.

In the Spring of 2013, when MCC’s Student Center is complete, a student will pass the reception desk at the main entrance of the college and head down the hall to a four-way intersection. The Hub is on their right (where they deal with aspects of student “business” – admissions, registration, payment, financial aid, etc.).

Down the stairs are classrooms, and the path to the Advising Center and Academic Affairs.

On the left, they face two options: they may head down the hall that leads to more academically-oriented services, bookstore, CAPS, classrooms, etc.

Or they head for the Student Center: a wide open, welcoming space where they can eat, socialize, exercise, watch TV, play Wii or pool, take part in student government or other organized activity. On a given day they may run into a community group conducting a public affairs discussion panel or a student group offering a workshop on volunteer opportunities.

The classrooms, Academic Affairs and even The Hub are the “business” of the college: the Student Center is the social life. Our growing population of younger, more traditional-aged students expect and are creating a collegiate social life with the limited resources they now have: the new Center will take their efforts to the next level.
